PUNTA GORDA, FL -
Charlotte County deputies are investigating the gunpoint robber of a Waffle House - and they have linked the case to two Waffe House robberies in Lee County.
Employees told deputies that two male suspects forced their way into the business - located at 9092 Mac Drive in Punta Gorda - just before 4 a.m.
Both men were wearing masks and dark or camouflage type clothing. Both men were also carrying handguns, according to the sheriff's office.
The men demanded money from the cash register and forced the employees to lie on the floor.
An employee said the thieves beat her son, who also works at the restaurant, with a gun during the robbery.
"They hit people even though they were complying and took cash and money from the register," said Captain Les Partington of the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
The suspects then left. Deputies don't know what kind of vehicle they were driving or which direction they headed.
According to deputies, the victims did what they should have in this violent situation.
They say typically the best way to stay safe is just giving these criminals what they want.
"Violence is still violence. Its not pretty its not fun and you're not guaranteed to win its a last resort option," Harry Grimm, SWFL Health and Self Defense.

But he agrees with authorities, fighting back should only be a last resort, especially when there's a weapon involved.
Investigators say the suspects are also wanted in two Lee County robberies that happened less than two hours apart on February 28th.
